Grease is the Word
There are many hair complaints that we find embarrassing to discuss such as dandruff, itchy scalp and excessively greasy hair. There is nothing worse than being told your collar is covered in tiny white flakes or that your hair smells greasy. Despite the embarrassment factor all of these conditions can be either eliminated or regulated.
Dandruff is nothing more than a massive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. The downfall of having dandruff is that it is visible and can cause an itchy scalp. It is caused no less by an accelerated renewal of the epidermis whereby instead of taking the average period of 28 days to renew itself, the scalp speeds up to twice this time and is renewing itself in only about 14 days. The dead skin cells can often clump together causing itchiness and dry hard spots which when scratched form a scab. Dandruff can also be heightened by improper rinsing of shampoos and conditioners which cause the scalp to dry out and become both itchy and flaky.Â
The remedy for treating dandruff is to use an anti-dandruff shampoo, followed by a moisturizing conditioner, preferably from the same product line. An anti-dandruff shampoo will slow down the cell regeneration cycle and eliminate the dry or seborrheic dermatitis dandruff conditions. A good anti-dandruff shampoo will also purify the scalp and calm down any itchiness resulting in a flake free head and above all else a flake free collar.
Greasy hair on the other hand is caused by an over production of sebum or natural oils of the scalp. This tends to result from a hormonal imbalance. Again an excess of oil can lead to scalp irritation and flat dull hair. A sebum regulating shampoo and conditioner, designed for oily hair, will rapidly normalize the level of sebum secretion, with regular use, leaving the hair looking healthier and cleaner in appearance.
